Book Review: Love Does

“I used to be afraid of failing at something that really mattered to me, but now I’m more afraid of succeeding at things that don’t matter.” – Bob Goff

Love Does is a book written by Bob Goff. It is a story of his life, he has had quite a life, and this book tells it all.

I opened the book not expecting what I was going to get out of it but I finished it growing in every way possible. It does not matter if you are Christian or not. There is a mindset that is carried throughout this book that is one that I wish I had.

It is one of complete commitment to living your life to the absolute fullest. It’s taking your kid to see the leaders of different countries because they sent letters to them and they responded. It’s sitting in front of the dean’s office all day for seven days to get into law school when your grades aren’t good enough.

Bob perused his wife for three years before he even got a date with her. He’s leading his life with the future in mind instead of the past. This has made him capable of living his life to the fullest. Not just saying or planning things, if anything he would skip the planning step entirely and just do. As long as you believe you can do the thing you have set out to do, no matter how big the goal is, you’ll accomplish it.

The world may end up thinking that you’re crazy from living your life like this. But if you don’t live your life this way you will end up regretting it. You don’t need to be an expert you simply need a little bit of skin in the game. Pick an opinion that you are willing to fight for. It is way easier to pick an opinion than it is a fight and we all need to challenge ourselves.

One of my favorite lines in the book is “We all get a chance to be awesome if we want to be”. It is up to you, it is a personal choice to take the chance and be awesome. So, are you going to do it? Are you going to make the choice, take the chance, and live your life to the fullest?
