“I think holidays create so much pressure because people feel they should be having a good time. But you shouldn’t. ” – Craig Ferguson
The past few months have honestly felt like a couple of years, but in celebration of making it to May, I have decided to write up a few things that are happening in May to look forward to.
It is honestly the little things that make life worth living, and I feel like in the past couple of months the standard for that little thing has gone so far down. Which is both a good and a bad thing, as promised here are a few of the holidays in May:
Cinco de Mayo – 5th
Now for the love of God please do not turn this into something that it isn’t, do not use this as an excuse to go out clubbing and be racist. Take it as a time to honor the traditions and educate yourself on the history. Enjoy the food, community, everything that has to do with this holiday. It is so much more than the whitewashed version of it.
Mother’s Day – 10th
I feel like it is quite obvious that we all would not be here without our mothers. If your birth mother is not in your life or possibly alive celebrate those that have stepped up at times and helped you. The bond between a mother and a child is something truly special, remember to thank them and to not take it for granted if you have a wonderful mom.
Dance Like A Chicken – 14th
I dare you to take this day and run with it. Bring back the childhood joy and throw away the fear of embarrassing yourself. This is a day to let loose, not take things too seriously, we all need to take a break every once in a while. So go ahead and dance like a chicken, get out of your comfort zone, ask some other to join you.
Wear Purple For Peace – 16th
You may be thinking that there is a really sweet meaning behind this, there slightly is, but in reality, it is meant to make the world a peaceful place and encourage alien species to make contact with the earth. I do not know about you, but I am about to go out and buy some purple so I can participate in this holiday and hopefully meet some aliens.
Lucky Penny Day – 23rd
With the absolute mess that is the world right now, take this day to give yourself some good luck. Whatever that means for you from meditation to listening to worship music, to manifestation, go for it. We all need a bit of good luck in our life right now!
Memorial Day – 25th
This is a bit similar to Cinco de Mayo, please do not take this holiday just as a fun break and go off to your lake and not remember the reason it is a holiday. We are honoring and remembering all of those that fought for our country. It does not matter what side you fall on politically these people sacrificed so much for us to be where we are.
Those are just a handful of the holidays in May, I hope they give you something to look forward to during this trying time. If you participate in any of them I would love to see!
