“Music is the movement of sound to reach the soul for the education of its virtue.” – Plato
This is an album from The New Basement Tapes. It is a studio collective assembled by T-Bone Burnett to set discarded and discovered Bob Dylan lyrics from 1967 to music and record.
In 2013 when they were discovered Dylan’s published approached Burnett with the job of turning the handwritten manuscripts into songs. He then set out to assemble the cast the make up The New Basement Tapes.
My friend and I discovered them when we I was driving her to the airport in Kansas City. We find songs for the different places we’ve been together and almost forgot to find one for Kansas City. I am pretty sure it was the first song that popped up and we instantly fell in love.
I am not sure why it took me so long to listen to the rest of the album, it does disappoint though. And the history behind it is fascinating.
