“People pleasing pleases everyone but the pleaser.” – Sanjo Jendayi
This will definitely show my age but when I was a little kid I remember watching Shake it off, a Disney channel show. It stared Zendaya and Bella Thorne, and there was one specific episode where the character that Zendaya plays freaks out over the fact that someone doesn’t like her.
I vividly remember watching this episode and having the shocking revelation that not everyone thinks like this. I thought everyone was a people pleaser. Let me tell you, something about the fear that Zendaya’s character had surrounding someone not liking her hit different.
Even now I deal with being a people pleaser on a day-to-day basis. I am still shocked when someone says it is something they do not deal with.
The realization that if someone doesn’t like you both parties will be okay was mind-blowing. I am just now starting to pursue my passions and purposes to the extent that I feel called to and am trying to do so unapologetically. It is a freeing feeling and one that I hope everyone gets to experience.
If you are similar to me, if you are a people pleaser through and through and do not know how to live your life otherwise I am here to let you know, it can be done. The impossible is possible and no one is going to die from it. Be all that you are called to be.
