“Every form of addiction is bad, no matter whether the narcotic be alcohol, morphine or idealism.” – Carl Gustav Jung
This small town I am in continues to surprise me with what they have and the people.
The Comfort Cafe is a nonprofit by SerenityStar, all of the employees are ex-addicts. There are no prices on the menus and you pay/donate what you can to the program. They also offer open meetings, similar to AA.
Every person that I talked with at the cafe seemed so excited to be alive. The art and everything surrounding is beautiful. It was a peaceful place with reggae music playing, good food, and a fantastic mission.
I have never been somewhere before that gave me such amazing vibes before. We also went when it was close to closing and there were rather few people there. We got to chat with some of the employees. The whole staff seemed like a family that was all insanely grateful.
Since 2010 the Comfort Cafe has been the heart of the program. A nonprofit cafe is unheard of, at least it is for me. It was a breath of fresh air and I will be visiting it again before I leave.
