“Just because you take breaks doesn’t mean you’re broken.” – Curtis Tyrone Jones
Burnout has the stereotype of being just an overload of stress but there is so much more to it. Burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion that can be triggered by prolonged and intense stress.
Although there are a handful of burnout symptoms that everyone knows about there are many that no one ever discusses but deserve the same amount of attention.
Burnout can look like:
- Little to no motivation
- Insomnia
- Emotionally overwhelmed
- Stress eating
- Easily overstimulated and triggered
- Extreme anxiety and emotions
- Exhaustion
- Frequent headaches and stomachaches
- Lack of a hunger
It is not just a mental health issue, it is an emotional and physical health problem. You do not have to have all of the symptoms to be suffering from burnout, it looks different for each person and each person copes in different ways. It is important to know your limits and be self-aware enough to see when you are reaching the point of burnout.
Invest in your hobbies and personal life, there is more to life than working. Life is a gift so make sure you’re living it.
