Free Self-Care

“Just because you take breaks doesn’t mean you’re broken.” – Curtis Tyrone Jones

Self-care doesn’t have to be an extravagant and expensive activity. Quite often acts of self-care are free, and just because they’re free doesn’t mean they’re less worthy of being self-care.

Here’s a list of things you can do, for free, to help you on your self-care journey:

  • Say no to something you don’t have energy for
  • Log off social media
  • Take a nap
  • Set a boundary
  • Ask for help
  • Look at old photos or videos that make you happy
  • Journal
  • Clean up your space
  • Follow an online meditation or yoga class
  • Wear something that makes you comfortable
  • Listen to your favorite song
  • Sit in the sun
  • Go on a walk
  • Read a good book

Something in particular to remember is that when you’re mental health starts to impact your physical health it’s crucial to do something about it. Stretch, find your center, take a nap, drink some tea. Whatever it takes to get you feeling better. Don’t think of it as selfish, think of it as necessary.

If it’s necessary and it’s free then there’s no reason not to do it.
