Decorating My Room

“All rooms ought to look as if they were lived in, and to have so to say, a friendly welcome ready for the incomer.” – William Morris

I haven’t decorated my room in almost a decade. I’ve moved so frequently that it never made sense to make a space feel more permanent. But now that I’ll be in a place for a more significant amount of time I’ve made it feel homier.

Yesterday I got the majority of the decorations I ordered and started putting them up. Once I was done I laid on the floor and listened to music while taking it all in.

Something so basic and normal was so unordinary for me. I have more than plants decorating my room, I have a room that is clean but actually looks like someone lives in it. There’s personality, pictures, and paintings present. There’s a person living here, and that person is me.

I know this may seem rather basic to some, but to me, this is a big step.

All this to say, decorate your room, make it feel like you. If you’ve changed since you last decorated it, then change it. I spend a lot of time in my room so making it a space I don’t mind spending time in is crucial. It might not be as important to you but it should still be a priority.
